AtkinsRéalis has appointed Steve Vincent as Global Market Lead for Power, expanding its senior leadership in one of its core markets.

Vincent joins the engineering group as electricity demand rises across global markets and investment grows in generation and grid networks. He will focus on aligning the company's power business across regions, identifying growth opportunities, and supporting clients on energy infrastructure programmes.

The appointment comes as power companies, governments, and large industrial users respond to higher demand linked to artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and wider electrification. Grid upgrades, new generation assets, and storage projects are taking a larger share of spending plans as operators seek to maintain secure and reliable supply.

AtkinsRéalis' power work covers generation, transmission and distribution, grid modernisation, energy storage, renewable energy, and advisory services. The company keeps this business separate from its nuclear operations.

Its portfolio includes Baltic Power's offshore wind project in Poland, the Champlain Hudson Power Express transmission line from Quebec to New York, and UK projects including Protos Carbon Capture and Storage and the Dragon LNG Digital Twin energy storage initiative. The group is also involved in grid modernisation work such as the Tinsley Park Substation Upgrade and support for National Grid's community engagement.

Sector shift

The hire comes against a backdrop of a power sector under pressure to expand quickly while adapting to changing patterns of demand. Data centres and related digital infrastructure have become a more prominent source of electricity consumption, strengthening the case for more generation capacity and stronger transmission systems.

Hydropower remains a longstanding part of AtkinsRéalis' work. Its first hydro project began in 1911, and it has since contributed to the development of more than 275GW of hydropower, roughly one-fifth of global installed capacity for that energy source.

Kate Kenny, Chief Growth Officer at AtkinsRéalis, outlined the commercial rationale for the appointment.

"Power is a critical growth market for our business, with governments, utilities, developers and major technology companies around the world investing at unprecedented levels to expand generation capacity, strengthen grid infrastructure and meet growing electricity demand. Steve will play a key role in bringing together our global capabilities, helping us deepen client relationships and ensuring we are well positioned to capture opportunities arising from the continued growth of digital infrastructure, data centres and the wider energy transition," Kenny said.

Leadership hire

Vincent brings more than 20 years of international experience in the power sector. Based in Dubai, he most recently served as Global Power Generation Market Director and Energy & Power Global Delivery Leader at Jacobs, where he held senior leadership responsibilities.

His remit at AtkinsRéalis reflects a broader trend among engineering and advisory groups to organise energy businesses on a more global basis as clients seek support across multiple jurisdictions. Large utilities, grid operators, and project developers are increasingly running programmes that span planning, design, and delivery across several markets.

The shift has also increased competition for executives with experience across power generation and networks. Engineering companies are seeking leaders who can connect regional teams and pursue work tied to electricity supply, decarbonisation targets, and infrastructure resilience.

Vincent described the current moment as one of sharp change for the industry.

"I'm delighted to be joining AtkinsRéalis as Global Market Lead - Power at a pivotal point in the industry's evolution. Across the world, the power sector is entering a period of unprecedented change and challenges, but that also brings exciting opportunities. The pace of investment and expectation across generation and grid infrastructure is ramping up due to heightened demand, not least from AI expansion, with all regions needing secure, reliable energy systems. I'm very excited about the journey ahead and look forward to working with our teams across the world to support market-leading value creation for clients, stakeholders, and end users alike," Vincent said.
